Self-Clinching Miniature Self Locking Nuts - Series CFE, CFEO, CFEX, CFEOX

Captive Fastener brand of miniature self clinching fasteners offer a design solution when space is limited in an assembly. The Captive Fastener series includes the CFE, CFEO, CFEX, AND CFEOX fasteners that provide strong reusable threads in thin sheets without taking up much room in the unit. The fasteners provide a low cost solution that are easily installed using a standard insertion press. Once the knurled design of the clinch profile is fully embedded and flush in the panel no further force is required. Once the knurled feature is flush in the panel the part is properly installed and will provide a strong reusable thread and will eliminate the prospect of loose hardware causing issues in the assembly.

Self-Clinching Mini Self Locking Nuts

The miniature nuts are available with a reusable locking feature provided by an elliptically formed thread, that is offered with a  dry film lubricant, which prevents galling when the mating screw is installed. The locking series are the CFE and CFEO series and are offered in both inch and metric threads. The fasteners are made with 300 series stainless steel and are coated with a dry film lubricant. The ML coating, which is the suffix call out for the dry film lubricant, also supplies extended salt spray protection.

Self-Clinching Mini Non Locking Fasteners

This series is also available in a non locking thread which is Captive Fastener series CFEX and CFEOX. These fasteners are also made with 300 series stainless that provides good corrosion resistance. These fasteners are supplied passivated to ASTM A967. The smaller design of these fasteners allows the parts to be clinched in the assembly closer to the edge of the panel than standard clinch nuts.

This series of fasteners can be installed into steel or aluminum panels with a maximum hardness of HRB 70 and can be installed into panels as thin as .020” thick. The proper hole size in the mating panel and the minimum sheet thickness for each thread size is called out for each fastener in our catalog under the Installation & Performance Data section. We also have an installation video here.
