Self-Clinching Tapered Guide Pins - Series CGS

Self clinching flush head tapered guide pins offer an excellent solution that provide a captivated guide pin in panels as thin as .040” / 1mm thick. They provide a cosmetically appealing flush mount where the head of the fastener is embedded into the panel into which it is installed. After installation the self clinching guide pin is captivated in the panel and can be used in a variety of alignment and positioning requirements in the design. The fasteners provide a low cost of installation and are easily installed using a press that supplies the squeezing force required to properly seat the fastener. The proper hole size and minimum sheet thickness needed for proper installation are clearly indicated in our catalog in the Dimensions & Specifications section.

Requirements to Successfully Install a Taper Pin:

When installing the CGS guide pins which are made with 300 series stainless steel, in steel or aluminum panels the fasteners must be harder than the metal into which the fastener will be installed. For example a CGS series stud can be installed into steel or aluminum panels with a maximum hardness of HRB 70. The CGTS series guide pins are made with heat treated 400 series stainless steel. The CGTS guide pins can be installed into stainless steel panels with a maximum hardness of HRB 90. This information is readily available within our website and on our catalog.

The proper hole size is necessary to insure the optimum push out values when installing flush head self clinching tapered guide pins. For example when installing a Captive Fastener CGS250-8 (.250” by ½”) 300 series stainless steel flush head tapered guide pin in a steel panel the hole size in the mating panel should be .272” +.003” -.000”. The suggested insertion force required is 9,000 lbs. The suggested insertion force for each fastener and the proper hole sizes required are available on our website.

Performance Values For Captive Fasteners Tapered Guide Pins:

The push out values for this series, are listed in our catalog under the heading Installation &Performance Data.  For example if the CGS250-8 self clinching guide pin is properly installed into a steel panel the push out value will be approximately 500 lbs. These self clinching tapered guide pins provide a low cost of installation coupled with excellent performance values and appealing cosmetic appearance.

The self clinching pins are available in inch and metric sizes and they are RoHS and REACH compliant. If 2D or 3D prints are required they can be downloaded from our catalog.
